You Don’t Need a Redesign. You Need to Simplify.

Most businesses don’t have a traffic problem. They have a conversion problem. You’re driving the clicks, maybe even getting the right people onto your site, but then… nothing. No enquiries. No bookings. No sales.

The good news? In many cases, your landing page isn’t broken — it’s just bloated, unclear, or under-optimised. And you can fix most of it in 10 minutes or less, without hiring a designer or rewriting your entire site.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the exact steps I take when auditing a landing page to improve conversions fast.

Step 1: Fix the First 5 Seconds

When someone lands on your page, you have about 3–5 seconds to make them stay. This means your headline has one job: immediately tell the visitor what you offer, who it’s for, and why they should care.

Common Mistake:

“Welcome to XYZ Solutions. We provide innovative services for modern challenges.”

✅ Instead, say: “Google Ads Management for Small Businesses in the UK — More Leads, Less Waste.”

Keep it specific. Keep it benefit-driven.

If someone can’t tell what your page is about in 5 seconds, you’re losing money.

Step 2: Kill the Clutter

If your landing page reads like a blog post, scrolls for miles, or has multiple menus and buttons, it’s working against you.

A good landing page should have one job. One offer. One call to action.

Ask yourself:

  • Is there more than one CTA on the page?
  • Are there distractions pulling attention away from the form or button?
  • Is the content focused, or trying to say too much?

🛠️ Quick Fix: Remove your top navigation menu (just on this page), cut unnecessary sections, and move your CTA above the fold. Keep it laser-focused.

Step 3: Upgrade Your CTA

Your call to action should:

  • Be visible immediately
  • Use clear, action-oriented language
  • Reinforce the benefit of clicking

Bad CTA: “Submit” or “Learn More”

✅ Better CTA: “Book Your Free 20-Minute Strategy Call” “Download My SEO Fix Checklist” “Get Instant Quote”

Every CTA should complete the sentence: “I want to…”

Step 4: Make It Mobile-First

Most sites get over 50% of traffic from mobile. Yet so many landing pages are designed with desktop in mind.

📱 Check this now:

  • Is your headline visible without scrolling on mobile?
  • Is the CTA button thumb-friendly?
  • Are the forms too long or clunky?

🛠️ Quick Fix: View your landing page on your phone right now. If it takes more than 3 taps or swipes to take action, simplify.

Step 5: Add Trust Fast

People are hesitant to give their details to brands they don’t trust. Your landing page needs to answer the question: “Why should I believe you?”

Simple ways to add trust:

  • A testimonial or client quote
  • A stat (e.g., “3,000+ leads delivered in 2024”)
  • A logo strip of companies you’ve worked with
  • A short, relevant review from Google or Trustpilot

You don’t need a full case study. One good quote or stat above the fold is enough to boost conversions.

Step 6: Give a Reason to Act Now

Urgency and relevance convert. But that doesn’t mean false scarcity or countdown timers. It means giving the visitor a reason to act today.

Try these:

  • “Free audits available this week only”
  • “Next strategy slot available Monday”
  • “New pricing goes live May 1st”

People act when they feel like they might miss out — or if the offer is time-sensitive.

Bonus: Test a Lead Magnet

If your service is higher-ticket or your visitors aren’t ready to book, offer a lead magnet:

  • Free PDF: checklist, blueprint, audit guide
  • Video walkthrough: “Watch how I optimised a real Google Ads account”
  • Email course: “5 Days to Fix Your Funnel”

Lead magnets warm up traffic and build trust over time. And they give you a second chance to convert.

Recap: The 10-Minute Landing Page Fix List

  1. Headline: Clear, benefit-driven, specific
  2. Clutter: One page, one job, one CTA
  3. Call to Action: Clear, visible, value-focused
  4. Mobile: Built for phones first, not desktop
  5. Trust: Add one stat, review, or logo
  6. Urgency: A reason to act now
  7. Lead Magnet (optional): Offer value upfront

Even one or two of these fixes can make a huge difference. I’ve seen conversion rates double just from cleaning up the headline and CTA.

And no, you don’t need a new website.

You need a sharper message, tighter structure, and a clear path to action.
